You can use Mapsofts DocuMerger tool to merge material from an existing PDF file into another PDF file. It is different from the Mapsofts PDFBuilder tool as PDFBuilder joins individual files together, one after the other to form a new composite document, while the DocuMerger merges a selected page from one document into another document. The document from which material is to be extracted (the source document) can be any length: but only one page can be extracted from it at any one time for merging into the target document.
You can specify if the merged content is to be placed into document as an overlay, on top of any existing page content (for example a letterhead) or as a watermark below the existing page content. You can also specify those page(s) on which you want the merged content to appear.
If the merging is performed on documents with different media sizes, the bottom left corner of the source document is aligned with the bottom left corner of the target document.
The DocuMerger tool is particularly useful when adding a logo from one file into another. If you use more than one logo you could store all the logos in one merger file and then select the one you want to extract and merge into a document.
To merge material into the current document using DocuMerger:
1. Open the document into which you wish to merge material from another document.
2. Select Plug-Ins > Mapsoft > DocuMerger from Acrobats main menu.
DocuMerger dialog box now displays:
4. In the From field, enter the name of the source PDF file containing the content which you wish to merge into another file. For example, if you had a PDF document containing a number of logos named MyLogoFile you would enter MyLogoFile here (together with the appropriate path name).
You can select the appropriate file using the Browse button if you prefer.pan style="font-size:10.0pt; font-family:'Arial',sans-serif">5. In the Page field enter the page number of the page in the source file that is to be merged into your target document.

page in the source file will be merged onto all the pages within the target
document that are specified here.
Alternatively, click the Current button to apply the merge operation to the currently open page only.
7. Select if the material is to be merged as a Watermark below any existing material or as an Overlay over the top of existing material.
8. Optionally enter a name for the DocuMerger configuration into the Name Configuration field and then click Save. This saves this configuration for later re-use or for use with Mapsoft Automator.
9. Click OK to perform the Merge operation.
To save a particular DocuMerger configuration for later re-use, simply enter a name for it into the Configuration Name field, then click the Save button. This makes configuration available for re-use in another session of DocuMerger. It also makes it available for use with Automator, Mapsofts unique automation tool which allows you to work with multiple files in batch mode.
Once saved, you can delete any existing DocuMerger configurations you no longer require simply by selecting the appropriate one from the drop-down list in the Configuration Name field and then clicking the Delete button.
The following options can be set in the DocuMerger dialog box:

the specified material is to be merged:
Specifies if the material is to be merged as a Watermark below the existing material or as an Overlay above it.
The name under which your new configuration is to be saved. Saving a configuration ensures you can use it again, or you can use it in conjunction with Mapsoft Automator.
You can choose to mark the whole of your PDF document(s) with the merged material of or just selected pages. Choose the All Pages option to merge the material onto all the pages within the PDF file, or the Specified Pages Only option to merge it onto selected pages only. You can then type the numbers of the pages you want into the text box at the foot of this field.
You can merge the material onto non-contiguous pages, and/or ranges of pages. To merge it onto individual non-contiguous pages type the page numbers of the relevant pages, separating each by a comma. For example to mark pages 6, 12 and 15 type:
6, 12, 15
Any spaces are ignored, so you can enter them or not as you prefer.
You can also specify a range of pages to be marked with the merged material. To do this type the starting and ending numbers in the range, separated by a hyphen. For example to mark pages 3 through 19 of your document type:
If you omit the first number in the range, the first page of the document is assumed. Similarly if you omit the last number the final page of the document is assumed. Thus if you were to enter:
the material would be merged onto all pages from page 3 onwards. If you were to enter:
the material would be merged onto pages 1 though 28.
You can specify both non-contiguous pages and ranges of pages at the same time. For example to merge material onto pages 3, 8, 9, 10, 14, and 18 type:
3, 8-10, 14, 18
Specified ranges can overlap if you so wish. For example it is perfectly possible to enter two overlapping ranges such as:
Once youve typed in a page range definition, if you subsequently click the All Pages button the page range definition is retained so making it easy to go back to it should this be required.
